Monty Progress Update

This past week I got the chance to meet with Santiago, Mostafa, and Mohamed regarding Monty. Santiago was kind enough to talk to me more about his Master’s thesis where he investigated hierarchy in the Monty model, by stacking learning modules on top of one another. I think my project will somewhat work off of where Santi left off. When I met with Mohamed and Mostafa, I was prepared with a bunch of questions to ask, which helped me further understand the theory behind Monty. Though Mohamed said to focus on the code, I feel that it is helpful for me to understand the theory so that I have something to base my understanding of the code off of. I will listen to Mohamed though, and I will try to get through the tutorials as quickly as possible. I asked Mohamed if I could continue to work with him after the summer ends and he said it would be fine, so I feel that it has released some weight off my shoulders.

Project Development Through CompNeuroSociety Pt. 2

I ended up not meeting with Andre or Upi that Monday due to something that came up. Andre said he is following up with Morgan or the NTX contact to see exactly how CNS will be involved in a TVB-related project.

Could this be a model for neurons in the neocortex?

I emailed Dr. Sherif to ask for some papers to read before I join his lab this upcoming summer. Attached below is the first paper I have started reading.

Project Development Through CompNeuroSociety

I met with Upi and Andre initially in an effort to develop projects for CompNeuroSociety student members. Andre took the first step of speaking with Morgan, the NeuroTechX student club advisor, who then gave Andre a list of potential projects for us to decide on which to pursue. At first, we had about 7 potential projects, and we collectively picked two that we liked after Andre had given us the rundown of those projects. The two projects that we liked were ‘Brain Age Prediction’ and ‘The Virtual Brain’.
